Partner organizations create a design thinking challenge based on existing needs within their organizations. CSEI teams work Monday – Thursday for three weeks in July using the design thinking process to research the topic and people they have been challenged to design for – be they clients, partners, suppliers, or employees, etc. of the partner company.

IMAGINING THE FUTURE OF CITIES

On Fridays, CSEI participants reconvene on Collegiate’s campus to review their four-day work week, the current status of their Design Thinking Challenge and to participate in the the Cities of the Future Challenge.

The Cities of the Future Challenge leverages resources from The Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Circular Economy in the Cities work as well as Richmond Indicators Project, an effort to measure progress on economic and social goals related to the Richmond region’s priorities.

The CSEI participants work in teams to pitch an innovative product / service / design intended to honor circular economy principles and attract millennials to their assigned city – Austin, TX; Hartford, CT; Jacksonville, FL; Louisville, KY; Memphis, TN; or Raleigh, NC – ultimately answering the question How can we embed circular economy principles to build thriving, livable, and resilient cities that attract Millennials and Generation Z?
